Furthermore, safety is our highest priority. To achieve this, HUD provides mandatory safety trainings and regular comprehensive technical trainings ashore and on board for all the respective staffs. The trainings not only enhance their technical and safety knowledge but also ensure the strict corporate safety standards have been reached.

In addition, HUD is proud to introduce the following unified programs with a centralized recruitment process that will select the right candidates for the various business streams at the right time:
 
Management Trainee Program

The Management Trainee Program is a 3-year intensive program on HUD Ship Repair / Salvage & Towage Division. It is designed for those university graduates with at least 3 years relevant working experience in Mechanical Engineering / Maritime related discipline. Fresh graduates with related academic discipline are also welcomed. The Program aims at exposing the trainees to a variety of skills and knowledge in theoretical and practical aspects. Trainees will be rotated in different departments to gain hands-on experience in both technical & management areas, which enable them to become competent in their future assignments, challenges and changes.
Technician Trainee Program

The Technician Trainee (TT) Program is a 3-year intensive program in HUD Ship Repair Division. It is designed for those graduates from technical or upper institutes with at least 3 years relevant working experience in Mechanical, Maritime, Steel Structure or Welding Engineering. Fresh graduates with related academic discipline are also welcomed. This program comprises mainly on-the-job exposure and partly classroom training to provide trainees a better view of the operations through job rotations. The trainees will be equipped with all essential technical & social skills during the training period, which enable them to become competent in their future assignments, challenges and changes.
Apprenticeship Training Program

The Apprenticeship Training Program is a 3 or 4-year program specified in the Ship Repair and Salvage & Towage field. It is designed for the youngsters aged between 14-22 (per law, 14-18; if over 18, join the scheme voluntarily). This program provides the on-the-job training in the HUD Ship Repair Division and Salvage & Towage Division. Apprentices shall be equipped with all essential technical & social skills during the training period, which enable them to become competent in their future assignments, challenges and changes.
Local Engine Operator Training Scheme

The Local Engine Operator Training Scheme is a 4-year program specified in the Salvage & Towage field. It is designed for the youngsters who completed at least Form 3, studied the 23-week Junior General Purpose Rating Course under Maritime Services Training Institute and with strongly interests in providing mechanic operating and maintaining services on the local tugs and container fleet. This training scheme provides intensive on-the-job training with opportunity to certify the official marine examinations of local engine operator. The Operator will be equipped with all essential technical skills during the training period, which enable them to become competent in their future assignments, challenges and changes.
Deck / Engineer Cadet Training Program

This is a 3-year structured program of shipboard training specified in the Salvage & Towage field. It aims to provide Deck / Engineer Cadets with the ability for becoming competent local Masters or Chief Engineers serving onboard the Company’s local tug and container fleets. Graduates of either the 2-year Diploma or 3-year Higher Diploma of Maritime Studies or the 23-week Junior General Purpose Rating Course under Maritime Services Training Institute are eligible for joining the Deck/ Engineer Cadet stream, while graduates of 2-year Diploma in Engineering (or equivalent) recognized by Hong Kong Marine Department (HKMD) are eligible for joining the Engineer Cadet stream.

This program allows the Cadets to accumulate qualified sea service for sitting the HKMD examinations leading to Local Coxswain or Engine Operator Certificates. During the training period, Cadets will receive intensive on-the-job training such as navigation / engine room watch keeping, seamanship, shipboard machinery and equipment maintenance as well as other essential technical skills.

Furthermore, Deck / Engineer Cadets may opt for joining the Company’s seagoing operations or other seagoing program accepted by HKMD to gain seagoing service period for sitting the examination leading to Certificate of Competency - Seagoing Deck Officer or Marine Engineer Officer.
Placement Student Program

The Placement Student Program is a short-term program that collaborated with IVE campus for those undergraduates. This program increases students’ industrial exposure opportunities to gain experience in a real industrial & commercial environment. Students will be rotated to different departments within the 3-month placement period to expose their subject-disciplined knowledge practically, and develop essential key skills for learning, employment & life.

Apprenticeship Training Program

For the recruitment of Apprentices, final year students from the following centres of Vocational Training Council, namely:
  1. Machine Shop & Metal Working Industry Training Centre
  2. Electrical Industry Training Centre
  3. Welding Training Centre
could approach to their relevant departments to get information on the related recruitment details in every May to June.
Placement Student Program

For the Placement Student Program, final year students of Marine Engineering in different campus of Institute of Vocational Education could approach their relevant departments to obtain information on the related placement application in every October to November.
